Hurdling, Because of it’s technical and energy demands, is one the most exciting event to watch and participate in. The technical aspect of hurdling is obviously much harder than in sprinting, although the concept of a hurdle race is basically a sprint with an adjustment at each hurdle. There are several different types of hurdle races. A standard sprint race would be 110 meters for men and 100 meters for women. The 400 or intermediate hurdles are a 400-meter race ran by both men and women. Each of these races consists of ten hurdles, and they are all Olympic events. For an indoor race the sprint hurdles are usual 60 meters for both men and women. This race consists of five hurdles most of the time. Also usually in high school this long race will be shortened to 300 or even 200 meters. There are also shuttle hurdle relay races, although they are rarely run. This just shows how versatile the hurdles can be in a track meet. The hurdles are such an exciting event to watch so there are many different events in order to incorporate them in any kind of track event.
The 110 or 100-meter hurdles are probably the most well knows among the other hurdle races. For an Olympic 110 meter runner the hurdles will be set at a height of 1.067 meters. In high school this height will range depending where you go. The first hurdle is set 13.72 meters from the starting line, and each hurdle after that are set 9.14 meters from each other. The distance from the last hurdle to the finish line is another 14.02 meters long. For the women in the 100-meter race the hurdles are 84 cm in height, and the first hurdle is set 13 meters from the starting blocks. The next 9 hurdles are set away from each other. From the last hurdle to the finish line it is a distance of 10.5 meters for the women. This race starts like a standard 100-meter race, from the blocks.
