Problem Solving Model Concepts

I read all the four problem solving models and it was really interesting to see how companies in the real world go about solving their problem on different project that they encounter in their every day work. I picked the Composite Problem Solving Model. Below I will describe the problem scenario and there on I will describe how composite problem solving could be used to solve problems.

Statement of the problem: Worker on the line comes in drunk. His foreman sends him to the HR for the discipline and the union was involved. The person could be working for large Multi-national Corporation or small business which consists of 10 people. I will describe the scenario for both the situations.

  1) Problem Identification: The problem here is a worker is using industrial equipment under the influence of alcohol. He can injure or fatally hurt himself as well as the other people who are working on the same line. Other people working on the same line being the operational worker notify this to the knowledge worker who is supervising the line. The knowledge worker (supervisor) sends him to HR for the discipline.

  2) Information Gathering/Analysis: The Operational worker in the HR department takes all the information from that particular worker like badge number, and give him proper alcohol test outlined by the company’s policy. After the test coming out positive the operational worker hands in his work title, his paperwork, badge number to the knowledge worker. Now the knowledge worker who is the supervisor person in the HR department checks out his/her history file for write ups and dig out more information about that particular incident and tries to figure out if it is his first offense or it has happened before as well.

  3) Weigh Alternatives/Decide Upon Course Of Action: Here we will discuss if the person is working for the big company or the small one. We will also discuss if it was his first offence...
