Gender Differences: Learned of Inherited

Gender is one of the universal dimensions on which status differences are based. Unlike sex, which is a biological concept, gender is a social construct explaining the socially and culturally described roles that both men and women are to follow. Such characteristics belong to humans by Nature, such as other traits are not inherited, but are a result from environmental influences. Which a child can inherit their parents eye color, and a person must learn how to speak French, they don't just naturally know the language at birth. The acquired traits are due to Nurture, which are any other inheritance other then biological influences. I was a little girl and I was about four years old, I always liked to play with my brother's legos and built castles, which I remember my mother would yell at me and say to me that I am a girl and I should be playing with barbies and dolls. Which I neglected to pay attention to her. I would just cry and pout to her, as she consisted to say “No, you are a girl and here are your toys”. But I now see why my mother didn't want me to play with boys toys because she followed the stereotypical way of only playing with girls toys such as dolls and makeup. Such as boy toys were created for boys so they will grow up following the structure of a boy and girls toys were created for girls so they will be cute and adorable and not so aggressive. As for my mother she was just following the stereotypical way of what a girl is suppose to play with and what a boy is suppose to play with. As boys and girls adapt to the world around them, their perception of who they are and how society views them as a stereotype, will shape them as an individual; therefore these children will determine their own lives, which will distinguish the purpose of what they will be learning.
