A Life to be remembered.
As the only President to leave the White House and return four years later, Grover Cleveland, the twenty-second and twenty-fourth President of The United States stomped the nation with his whit, courage and outstanding leadership ability.
After growing up under a Presbyterian Minister and being one of nine children, Grover Cleveland followed the road that carried him to the white house in only four years once tuning 44. Cleveland grew up in upstate New York where he perused a career as a lawyer in Buffalo, where he became prominent for his single-minded concentration upon whatever duty faced him. Cleveland decided to take his campaign different route and ran as a Reformer which soon landed him the title of mayor of Buffalo in 1881 and in later years, the Governor of New York.
Cleveland won the title of President with a combined vote from the Republicans and Democrats. After entering the White House, Cleveland married 21-year old Francis Folsom. Although he wanted to be president, Cleveland was very at ease about the whole situation.
After dynamically perusing policies barring special favors to any economic group and vetoing a bill for $10,000 worth of distributing seed grain to drought farmers, Cleveland also vetoed many private pension bills against the Civil War Veterans. When Congress, pressured by the Grand Army of the Republic, passed a bill granting pensions for disabilities not caused by military service, Cleveland vetoed it, too.
Grover Cleveland was a man who seemed to get on many peoples nerves, especially after making the railroads return 81 million acres of land and signing the Interstate Commerce Act, which was the first law attempting Federal regulation of the railroads.
After reducing high protective tariffs, Grover Cleveland was defeated by Benjamin Harrison with fewer electoral votes than his Republican opponent.
