I always had this perception of life, ‘whatever I will be in the future, I would like to become a successful and a happy man’. Now that I’m pursuing Computer Engineering to achieve a happy life, I need to be academically perfect to earn my living as an engineer.
When I started college, money had become the key factor to pay for my tuition. I didn’t have a checking or savings account in a bank or a credit union and I used to carry cash in my pocket. I used to lose a lot of cash, sometimes dropping it out my overloaded pocket, sometimes my little brother stealing few dollars out of my pants and one time even by getting robbed. That was when I realized I needed a checking account.
I did some research about banks and credit unions and I found out that credit unions have a lot of advantage over banks because of their high interest rates and member oriented services. The professional approach, detailed instructions of better rates and lower fees, and insurance on the deposits impressed me to open a checking and a savings account with a credit union based in my university. Since then, I’ve been handling my money way better than before and I’ve been saving a lot. I deposit 50% of my income towards my savings account for my tuition and the rest towards my checking account. My credit union offers very good interest rate in savings account than any bank, and I can use that extra money to purchase books and college necessities. Now I have a sense of security that my earning is in good hands and secure.
In of my forth coming years in school when I’ll be sort of money, I have a backup. My credit union offers up to $10,000 in student loan for a year at very low rate. I will definitely take advantage of the loan and keep my grades in good standing which is very important for my future.
