Lady Macbeth can only be held responsible for Macbeth becoming the king of Scotland to a very small extent. She definitely contributed to Duncan's death, but with the others she contributed very little if any. This is due to the fact that Macbeth was influenced by other sources for the sequence of murders. The Three Witches who with their prophecies planted thoughts in Macbeth's head about becoming king was one of those factors. The other person who of course was responsible for the murders was Macbeth himself. Macbeth's thoughts about becoming king and his own ambitions are what eventually led him to commit the murders. The Three Witches with their prophecies at the beginning of the play put everything into motion. One day they told Macbeth and Banquo their fortune. They told Macbeth that one day he shall be king, it wasn't until he was informed about his Cawdor title though did he want to kill Duncan. This in turn with him writing Lady Macbeth about the prophecies is the cause of Duncan's death. If he would not have written the letter she would have never developed the desire to become queen and the plan to kill Duncan would have failed When it comes to Banquo's death Lady Macbeth cannot be held responsible. The Witches' prophecies for Banquo was what led to his death. They prophesied that Banquo would be live happier than Macbeth. They also stated that Banquo's descendants would become king but he would not be. When Macbeth became king this prophecy became a potential threat and led him onto murdering Banquo. Lady Macbeth had no responsibility in this murder. Macbeth wanted her to remain innocent and told her nothing about the murder. The death of Macduff's family was also a result of the Witches' wrongdoing. When Macbeth met with the Witches for the final time he learned to he should fear Macduff.
