In today’s business environment it pays to be a diverse and multi-cultural company. Affirmative action has been an issue facing companies since John F. Kennedy put Executive Order 11246 into action in 1965. Affirmative action has many benefits including complying with Equal Opportunity Employment laws or EEO laws. There are issues associated with affirmative action that can make putting it into play a decision that should have all aspects associated with it considered before putting it into practice. After considering all these issues I feel that it would be most beneficial for our company to put affirmative action into practice.

    EEO laws ensure that employers are non-discriminating in their employment practices. EEO laws protect people of all nationalities, sex, race, and religion. Affirmative action provides a way to not only comply with these laws but provide opportunities to hire people from other backgrounds. As a fair business we want to comply with these laws and affirmative action does this. Before we implement affirmative action we would need to analyze our demographics in our workplace. Having affirmative action in place would draw people that may not have applied to a position at our company if we did not have a reputation as a company that is compliant with EEO laws. Many students and even older people wanting to further their career are stating out at a disadvantage affirmative action can give them the boost in our company that they need starting out and for advancement. If we as a company fail to hire qualified minorities and women it would ultimately fail us a company in the long run.

    There have been issues with affirmative action being put into practice at other companies. There is always the fear that it will create reverse discrimination after it is put into practice.   Some of the employees that are hired due to affirmative action may feel that they have not been hired because of their abilities only because of affirmative action....
