Introduction
Total Quality Management (TQM) represents one discussed theories of management practices studied by today's college business students. Total quality management relies on a many fundamental principles but companies should truly focus on the core mission of their business culture: Maximize and minimizing costs seems to be the norm. “TQM's” theoretical platform, history, use, and or application are the most important part of a business.
Define Total Quality Management
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a very popular quality management concept and is becoming more popular in every business around the world. Originating in the 1950s TQM is being recognized as an essential part of business. TQM’s philosophy involves the continuous improvement of a company’s overall business practices. “It is a mixture of different management and quality tools designed to increases an organizations business while reducing or eliminating any harmful or wasteful practices” (C.W. Burrill and J.Ledolter, 1999). Total Quality Management seeks to use all the businesses leadership functions such as: customer service, production, engineering, design, finance and marketing to focus on meeting the organizations objectives and the customer’s needs. “To work properly TQM requires the experiences and knowledge of the organizations employees. The simple objective of the Total Quality Management philosophy is to “Do the right things, the first time, every time” (Hashimi can company, 2000). TQM is a philosophy that has become adaptable to all forms of business practices. Originally TQM was only applied to manufacturing operations, however, since the 1980 it has been used in every business around the world.
