Non-Verbal Communication
Nonverbal communication is any communication given that is not verbal. It is made of facial expressions, body movement, and space. This type of communication is more trusted than verbal communication. If a person is not showing interest in their face for a conversation then the receiver does not believe that they are truly interested in the topic at hand.
Situations where non-verbal communication is used are when you first meet a person, discussing a topic of school with a teacher, when a friend is upset and you are comforting them and when speaking to a person in general. When in these situations the proper use of the variables is important. When speaking and not maintaining eye contact a person may not realize that you are speaking to them. If a friend is upset and you are comforting them if you are constantly checking your cellular device or looking at your watch they will think that you have somewhere else to be and are not important. When a teacher is asking you a question that you say you know the answer to but seem frustrated or upset and are flipping through your notes, the teacher will probably believe that you did not do your homework.
An example of non-verbal communication in my life is the other day during breakfast I was talking to my friend Bryson, but I was looking down at my food. He had no idea that I was talking to him and everyone at the table looked at me slightly confused. They asked me who I was speaking to and then I corrected the problem. My error in communication at this point was that I did not make eye contact with the person I was speaking to. The question that I asked was not specific enough for them to narrow down the recipient and therefore they were all confused.
