Coming from a seemingly perfect race, humans are incredibly imperfect beings. The media is a big player in this. The United States has the quickest rate of obese people in the world. This may be a surprising fact considering that beautification seems to be our main focus. We are most concerned about how we look and how others think of us even if we do not show it. From make up to diet pills, people are heavily influenced exponentially on what they see on television, magazines, movies, and on commercials.
The media is a big reason to why our thinking is warped on how we see men and women. It is the reason why we judge people on their outer appearance opposed to their characteristics and how they present themselves. It plays a role in which telling us what we should find attractive in the opposite sex. For instance, in most cases women should be skinny, have the ‘perfect body’, beautiful facial features, being curvy in all the right places, and look almost similar to actresses and models rather than being themselves and concentrating on how they really do appear. To prove this correct, if you ask a man who he would rather date, a skinny model type woman or an overweight unattractive woman who do you think he will choose? Although men usually prefer the beautiful woman, the same goes for women as it does for men. You see famous males and most likely you see them as being built, in shape, and attractive. Now why would a woman want an obese unappealing man if she is so used to watching gorgeous men on the television, wouldn’t she be more interested in the other? What the media has programmed into our brains is that we should rely on the outer features of another person instead of how they act. I guess it is safe to say that the media distorts our image and thinking of how men and women should be seen.
