Gay Rights is a topic that I feel really close too and strongly believe in, that’s why I chose it as my us social policy. The main reasons why people are for Gay marriage is, denying Gays to be married is a violation of religious freedom. One love, you cant fight your feelings no matter what sex you are attracted too. The First Amendment of the Constitution states that a person's religious views must be protected. Although there are believers of gay rights there are a ton of dis-believers. The main reason for denying marriage to gay couples is because all major religions consider homosexuality a sin. Marriage is an institution between one man and one woman. Same-sex couples aren't the optimum environment in which to raise children
Denying these marriages is a form of minority discrimination. America was founded on the concept that the majority should rule, but the rights of minorities should be protected. It is the main reason we have a Bill of Rights as well as anti-slavery and equal protection amendments. Denying marriage to a homosexual couple is no different than denying marriage to Hispanic or black couples. The real reason why people oppose, but wont say is it offends everything religion stands for in dis-believers eyes. But whose religion? Many mainstream Christians, and most branches of Islam and Orthodox Judaism are against it, but outside those, most religions are unopposed to gay marriage, and many actually favor it. When the Mormon church arrogantly claimed to represent all religions in the Baehr vs. Lewin trial in Hawaii, the Buddhist sect in that state made it very clear that the Mormon church didn't represent them, and made it very clear that they support the right of gay couples to marry.
