As Senator John Kerry once said, “We believe that what matters most is not narrow appeals masquerading as values, but the shared values that show the true face of America; not narrow values that divide us, but the shared values that unite us: family, faith, hard work, opportunity and responsibility for all, so that every child, every adult, every parent, every worker in America has an equal shot at living up to their God-given potential. That is the American dream and the American value." Senator John Kerry is saying that Americans believe that what matters most are the shared values that bring Americans together like, family, faith, hard work, opportunity, and responsibility. Those values are important so that every person in the world has one equal chance of achieving their American Dream. Everyday people young and old are achieving their American Dream, but there are also a great deal of people that are not able to achieve their American Dream because of reasons like death, poverty, and discrimination.
Some people achieve their American Dream and help others achieve their American Dream. 24 year old from Mendham, New Jersey, Maggie Doyne has fulfilled her American Dream along with helping other children achieve theirs. Right after graduation while her friends were heading off to college, Maggie got dropped off at the Newark Airport to travel the world. As she says, “It was just me and my backpack on my first solo trip away from home.” After she visited four countries, she was trekking through the Himalayas in Nepal. She saw a great deal of orphans and fell in love with their beautiful eyes and bright smiles, but she was shocked by the materials that they lacked that most young children in the United States have today and the materials she had when she was young. She shared her dream of building these orphans a safe house with her hometown and they supported her to the end. Three years ago she opened the front door to the Kopila Valley Children’s Home....
