Art Presentation Paper
On Tuesday April, 20 2010 I attended an art presentation in Bohannan 90 at 6 o’clock. It was the last available presentation that we could attend and write this required paper for the class.   I knew early in the semester that I should go and get it done and not wait until the last minute because I would regret it.   Well sure enough I procrastinated and I definitely regretted it.   Within the first five minutes of being there I regretted it.   I got there about two minutes late so I had to sit in the very back row of one of the largest lecture halls at UMD.   All of the lights in the lecture hall were turned off besides the one that was being projected on the screen.   So right off of the bat I was struggling to see what was on the screen and I could barely see what I was writing on my notepad because it was so dark in there.   So there was a man standing at the front of the class behind a podium to the right of the projection screen talking in an extremely monotone voice.   He was wearing a suit and glasses, sporting a comb-over hair style; he was looking very professor like.   He was talking about medieval poetry, which does not interest me in the slightest.   So I sat there and kicking myself for not going to a presentation sooner and listened to this monotoned man talk about medieval poems for an hour.
He was talking about the allegory Dante’s Inferno and showing slides which had paintings on them that artists had made to go along with certain parts of the story.   He explained that Dante’s Inferno is the first part of Dante Alighieri’s poem from the fourteenth-century called Divine Comedy.   It is about the journey of Dante through hell, or the medieval version of hell, guided by the Roman poet Virgil.   In the poem, Hell is shown as nine circles of suffering located within the earth.   Through symbolism, the Divine Comedy represents the journey of the soul towards God, with the Inferno (Italian for Hell) describing the recognition and the...
