In this movie there is a hotel manager by the name of Paul who has to struggle to keep his family safe from the dangers that are right outside his own doors. The things that are going on just outside of his doors cause him to not just protect his own family, but he is placed in the positions that he has to care for the refuges that are brought to him. And throughout this movie we see the trials and tribulations that are Paul has to go through and the ways that he has to deal with the problems. There were so many different things from the books that could be linked to this movie, however I will only be touching on two of them the first would be Class Identity, and the second would be social position. How far would you go to protect the people that you love? Would you bribe, steal, hurt someone else, or even take the life of another individual in order to protect the people that you love?
The movie Hotel Rwanda is placed during the timeline of the Civil War between the Hutu and the Tutsi people. The main character Paul Rusesabagina is placed in the middle of the conflict because he is not only a manager of a Sabena Hotel Des Mille Colline but the fact that is wife Tatiana who is a Tutsi. So Paul decides that he would bribe the Rwandan Army with alcohol and money to keep his family safe from the tension that is being seen from just outside of their windows. Not only does Paul have the ability to keep his family safe but also was able to get a large portion of the refugees safety inside the hotel, unfortunately the United nations was unable to give any assistance due to the fact that they were forbidden intervene in the massacre that was taking place. Paul’s last effort to save the refugees was the try to reason with The Rwanda Army General Augustin Bizimungu when that does not work his only chance of being able to save his family and the other refugees is by blackmailing...
