Leadership in America has been filled with names such as Lincoln, Washington, Martin Luther King, Billy Graham, Oprah, and Clinton. These leaders may be political, religious, or social. Nevertheless, they have presented themselves to the public and chosen to lead. Today, America is faced with a decision on who will be the next President of the United States. As time winds down to the Presidential election, citizens of the United States are in a crunch to carefully research and ultimately make a decision on who they will vote for. America has a choice between two candidates in Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain. Both candidates will have to sway the people of the United States to believe that one of them is the right choice. While America has gotten to know these two candidates through the media, a focus should be on each of their leadership characteristics and leadership styles, rather than just where each stand behind certain issues. This is figured out through speeches, interviews, advertising, and Presidential debates. Their reactions and how they portray themselves determine what type of leader they are and how they may lead America. Therefore, it is imperative for each to be truthful and honest in presenting themselves to the country.
Senator John McCain’s personal character has been a dominant feature of his public image; he has been considered a warrior, a patriot, and a man of good-will with his service in the United States Navy and the U.S. Senate. But he has also been considered a gambler or a risk-taker by those who are against his campaign. How should America view this characteristic and should they stand beside it or view it negatively?
