Youth work means a lot of different things to different people, including youth workers.

What is Youth Work
Youth work comes from many different settings, from statutory provisions, voluntary groups, churches, sporting groups, outreach, and many more.

Youth work is very diverse and can come in the form of youth centres were crafts and table games can be played, outreach and dethatched with the workers going to young people, sports in all forms, single gender work, socially exclusion work, school settings, religious settings and so on.

Who is to say which way is the best or right way? Hopefully all will be for the benefit of young people.
What is Youth Work
Sapin ( 2009) suggest youth work should have an impact on young people’s lives via a process of development, enjoyment, taking part voluntary, with relevant learning based on young people’s expressed needs and interests.
A series of other theorists see youth workers as different roles, Foreman (1987) see them as Redcoats, were as Britton (1987) says they are social workers and Stone (1987) says they can be just caretakers.
This suggests a youth worker can be many things, however for their own professional identity they must see where they sit within the organisation.

A Code of Ethical Conduct
In 1999 The National Youth Agency (NYA) introduced a draft document that would look at the way in which youth workers would work. It was called “Ethics in Youth Work”.
