Operating Systems File Management Outline
Windows 7 file management consists of four default file libraries. These are: documents library, pictures library, music library, and videos library. By default, documents, pictures, music, and videos are automatically saved in the appropriate library. Users are allowed to create new libraries to store files in for better organization and separation.
Key features of file management for Windows 7 include: the preview pane which allows the user to preview a file before opening it, HomeGroups, which allow PCs that are networked together to read and write files on other PCs and jumplists, which allow users to pin applications and files used frequently to the taskbar for quicker access.
Macintosh OSX 10.7 file management, or Finder, has All My Files, which is a sidebar feature that allows users to browse files in user directories. All My Files allows grouping files by attributes (application, size, date added, etc.). Mac OS X Lion also features AirDrop, which allows direct file sharing with Wi-Fi Direct.
Linux uses a hierarchal structure for storing files, and Linux considers everything a file, including directories and computer components. Users can create directories to store files and other directories that are related to each other in an organized manner.
Android has a very open file management system. Everything is stored internally on tablets and phones so everything can be easily accessed in their designated folders. It is completely bare bones when compared to Windows and Linux, but can be modified in ways that are more easily accessible to the user.
