Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts

Why is culture so important to an organization? Some might say that organizational culture is the personality of an organization. Culture is embraced through the values, norms, and assumptions of organizations employees and their behaviors. In this paper I will discuss a few factors within an organizations culture including diversity, communication, ethics, and change management.
Within an organizations internal structure are an organizations shared beliefs and values. These shared beliefs and values influence the performance of the organizational employees and create the companies organizational culture. There are three types of organizational cultures, the constructive culture, the passive/defensive culture, and an aggressive/defensive culture. Within the constructive culture employees are encouraged to work together. Within a passive/defensive culture employees seek to guard their security and they tend to act defensively with their coworkers. In an aggressive/defensive culture employees tend to act defensively with their coworkers because they are trying to defend their position or status. Many organizations I have worked for have displayed a constructive culture and have been a pleasure to work for. Because the culture was a constructive culture with a positive environment the productivity results were always high. Great working relationships were established and an overall work satisfaction.
Diversity should be integrated within all organizations and it should be viewed as one of a company’s keys to their success. This is a very important component and should always be taken seriously. What should a company do to ensure their organization is diverse? If an organization notices that leadership lacks the skills to work with people of different races, genders, age groups, abilities, and backgrounds, this company faces a huge disadvantage in the world work forces.
