McCain vs. Obama
Election day has come and gone. It was the fifty-sixth election that our country has held, it was the longest campaign, and has chosen our fourtifourth president. Our country has voted and chosen Barack Obama, the Democratic canidate. He beat out John McCain, the republican. The presidential race has been shaped to be primarily between John McCain and Barack Obama. Senator John McCain is a senior United States Senator from Arizona. He has many years of experience. He was first elected to The House of Representatives in 1982 and has been serving the United States Senate since 1987. Senator Barack Obama is the junior United States Senator from Illinois. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote. Obama is the first African American to be nominated by a major political party for president. Many are asking: "Who should I vote for?" Some will not vote at all. Others will choose their candidates on their appearance, ethnic background, experience, age, charisma, and values. There are many issues to consider when choosing which candidate to vote for such as abortion, health care, and education.
Family and honor beliefs show in McCain's political stands on many controversial topics. Abortion is one of those controversial topics. McCain is anti-abortion. He believes that only when pregnancy resulted from incest, rape, or when the life of a woman is endangered should abortion be legal. McCain believes that it is God's choice that a child is in the womb; therefore, to usurp that choice in contradiction of our declaration of principles it is very wrong. Obama thinks differently. When it comes to women's rights on abortion he is a strong supporter. Obama states: "A woman's ability to decide how many children to have and when, without interference from the government, is one of the most fundamental rights we possess.
