Indonesian Business Culture
Firstly I would like to say few words about business negotiations. In my opinion the psychological aspect is very important in business communication. Question that has always been faced business people is how to build a conversation and negotiations with people with different cultures. It is important to understand the general patterns of business communication, which will analyze the situation and consider the interests of the partner, in other words, to speak the same “language”. To negotiate successfully, people need to clearly understand what they are trying to gain from the negotiation. The negotiations usually aimed at solving the problem. In my opinion, for the successful negotiation participants must have encyclopedic level of education, professionalism, eloquence and thorough preparation for the upcoming meeting. Also, to negotiate successfully it is important to learn foreign languages; it will help to tie business acquaintances, and communicate successfully with the foreign opposite sides. On this note I would like to finish with defining the “negotiation” word, and would like to commit to the Case Analysis.
It was very interesting to read this case, it is full of real business issues and that’s why this case is a good example of how US companies must and must not interact with foreign companies. In my opinion the biggest problem in this situation is absence of knowledge of how to deal with Indonesian companies. The way I see the situation is the following; Jared represented the problem in the way that it’s not suited for Indonesian business environment, realizing that he did a mistake, he asked for help from Anwar, I think it was an intelligent approach which helped to balance the disagreement about the money, then Malcolm intervened and ruined everything by being unprofessional and disrespectful.
