Weight Training

As a weightlifter, I have many routines. I have these routines to accomplish a goal; to gain more muscle mass and definition. To accomplish this, there are many things that have to be done, regularly. On a typical workout day I have to make sure to get a good nights’ sleep, very important. Food is my next necessity; I normally have a bowl of oatmeal and 7 to 8 eggs. Then of course you need to wear the proper clothing, imagine trying to bench-press wearing a dress shirt and slacks. If it is a workout day then head to the gym. Safety is a huge aspect so I start out stretching, and then follow up with a short cardio exercise. Then I train different muscle groups at different angles and weight. After the workout is over, I drink a protein shake to aid my healing time. Then go home, sleep, and repeat.

Next to the actual lifting, eating healthy is the one of the most important things. As the epidemic of fast food has swept the US it has become increasingly harder to eat healthy. Fried foods especially are so convenient and tasty, yet horrible for your body. There is a famous saying, “If it doesn't fly, swim, run, isn't green and growing in the ground, don't eat it!” If I were to skip meals or eat unhealthy food, my day could be completely ruined. Let us say instead of eating oatmeal for breakfast I went to Mc Donald’s and ordered a combo meal; supersized, with a coke. Sure it would taste good at first, but as far as what it does to your body, the rest of the day I would likely have less energy and not enough nutrients to benefit my workout. I have tried this scenario before and ended up leaving the gym due to the fatigue and lack of motivation.

I can not even begin to stress the importance not overtraining while weightlifting. Every time I go to the gym I am likely to spot someone doing something potentially harmful to their body. In my opinion, the biggest misconception of weight training is the idea that the more times you work a...
