Introduction
In this paper I will outline my recommendations for the development of a computer network for the Bead Bar. The company is in need of a well-designed network structure. The executives of the organization have specific needs for their departments. The Bead Bar is steadily growing and requires a network capable of handling daily business functions and processes. Bringing in new technology will reduce redundancy and create a more effective business flow. I will evaluate the company’s present technology and outline an effective network topology and architecture. Although there are advantages to a new network there can also be drawbacks, which I hope to minimize by prioritizing what is most important.
By connecting the locations with a computer network, the organization will be able to increase its productivity, reduce filing errors, and track sales trends. This will be achieved by allowing the locations to communicate with each other and save documents on the network directory for global access at any time of the day or night. Obtaining the right network, the Bead Bar could communicate in real time with all other members of its network. Updating and acquiring a good network will help the Bead Bar remain current with the evolution of technology and the ever-changing trends that occur within the business market.
Background
The Bead Bar has approximately six studios, five franchises, and a special franchise just for cruise ships. Based on our recommendations the Bead Bar now has 14 personal computers, two notebook computers, one handheld computer, and one extra computer. All the personal computers are using Windows XP as an operating system, which already has a networking wizard bundled with its software. All the studio computers have a 17" LCD monitor to save space.
