Dear Senator Obama,
I am writing this letter to support capitalism, and the role it can play in the solution of the impending water crisis. This is one of the most important elections of our time. On top of everything else, water is an issue of great concern for our nation. Some say we are soon to be in a national water crisis, while others refuse to believe this (Schandling). There are plans that deal with this crisis in very restrictive ways, although those tactics may squelch the already slumping economy even more. As a nation something must be done to preserve water for future generations. Management by the private sector of the water crisis is what the country needs right now to protect our water supply and our failing economy.
The United States is the land of the free. We are allowed the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as written in our constitution. One aspect of life citizens take for granted is the American economic system capitalism. As defined by Webster’s Dictionary, capitalism is an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production and distribution is maintained by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned entities. Capitalism and the right of our economy to run itself is something that is often forgotten. Our government lets us oversee our own wealth and we must place trust in each other to maintain the careful balance of supply and demand. As the water crisis goes, you, Senator Obama claim that solutions to the water crisis include “closer collaboration between federal, state, and local governments” (Schandling). I am curious as to how this will help what is anticipated to be a shortage in water. Collaboration in government branches simply does not produce water.
