First realization: Each of us have our own way of learning and studying even if we are all taught by our teachers the same way. We all have our own way of processing information and we all have unique styles in gaining knowledge. Consequently, it is logical to say that individuals perceive and process information in very different ways. It includes how they approach learning, experience learning and utilize information.
In the sharing activity in class about how each person studies, the most obvious difference between my classmates was that of the type of environment that one is comfortable with when studying. Some cannot concentrate even on the littlest noises while others can study even when loud music is turned on. Some prefer studying on cold environment while some do not because they have the tendency to get sleepy. Learning styles do differ depending on the environment. Though this is only at a low level of understanding learning styles, the type of environment somehow dictates the whole learning style of the person. The environment may also influence the state of mind of the learner. Obviously, those persons who like to work in a quiet environment are those who could get distracted easily. But then again, even though the class had similarities in the type of environment they want when they study, each has their own way of studying.
“How do you study?” Each of us has our own way of studying for an exam. It was quite interesting in class that when one person (especially those ones who always get high grades) was sharing an “odd” technique in studying, the other people would joke (but really mean it) that they would also do the same thing the next time they study. For me, I could not say that this will be effective to them because I for one have developed the way I study in years of process.
