Winston Churchill
Winston Churchill was born on November 30 1874 in Oxford shire, United Kingdom. His father was Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill who was born to a politician father Lord Randolph Churchill and mother Lady Randolph Churchill who was the daughter of an American millionaire. Winston Churchill had a brother John Strange Spencer. Winston Churchill was born the aristocratic family of the Dukes of Marlborough. From age two to six, he lived in Dublin because his grandfather was the viceroy of Dublin and his father was his private secretary. Churchill’s education started in Dublin, where he learned how to read, write and do math problems. His first reading book was called 'Reading without Tears'. Churchill was not a smart student; he received many punishments for his horrible academic record. On September 12th, 1908, Churchill married Clementine Hozier. Churchill was commissioned as a Cornet (Second Lieutenant) in the 4th Queen's Own Hussars on 20 February 1895. He traveled to many countries which include Cuba, India, Sudan and South Africa. In 1900, he retired from the regular army and in 1902 joined the Imperial Yeomanry where he was commissioned as a Captain. Churchill’s parliamentary career started from 1900. He was a parliamentary member from Oldham. During his first parliamentary session, he opposed the government's military expenditure. Churchill opposed Mohandas Gandhi's peaceful disobedience revolt and the Indian Independence movement in the 1930s. After the outbreak of the Second World War, Churchill was appointed as the First Lord of the Admiralty and a member of the War Cabinet. Churchill served as the Prime Minister of Britain twice (1940–45 and 1951–55). He was the Prime Minister of Britain during the Second World War. Churchill's speeches were a great inspiration to the embattled British. He played a crucial role during the time of war.
