BUSINESS REVISION FOR COMMUNICATION TEST
1) What is meant by communication ?
Communication is the transferring of a message from the sender to the receiver, who understands the message.
2) Outline the four features necessary for communication to be “ effective” ?
_ a TRANSMITTER or SENDER of the message . This is the person who wishes to pass on the information to others. ( This person has to choose the next two features carefully in order to make sure that communication occurs effectively.)
_ a MEDIUM OF COMMUNICATION : a method for sending the message.
_ a RECEIVER of the information – the person to whom the message should be sent .
_ FEEDBACK : when the receiver confirms that the message has been received and responds to it. This ensures that the information has been correctly received by the right person.
3) Explain the two difference between one-way and two-way communication ?
One – way communication does not allow for feedback from the receiver of message, but two – way communication does.
4) Explain one situation in which two-way communication would be particularly useful ?
In the situation where the receivers of the message have to understand it and react appropriately, e.g new safety regulations, changes in working practice, hours, holiday arrangement. Two – way communication allows the sender to check that receivers have understood what is required.
5) Explain the difference between internal and external communication ?
_Internal communication is when messages are sent between people working in the same organization.
_External communication is when messages are sent between one organization and another organization or outside individual.
6)List three media that can be used for written communication ?
Letter, notices, memos.
