I’ve always thought that I’ve been placed in the wrong generation. I never quite fit in with the 21st century. Maybe I would have been a fantastic flapper in the 20’s, or I could have been a 40’s pin-up. Most of all, I would have loved to be a 60’s hippie. America has changed so much as a country since then. But has it changed for the good or for the bad? I think that in many ways it has changed for the good. We’ve gotten further along in science, astronomy, and life itself. People have changed, knowledge has changed, style has changed, and most of all rights have changed.
In the beginning of life in America, women were looked down upon. They were always expected to clean, cook, look beautiful, and have children. However, we have progressed so much since then. The 1920’s completely changed women’s standpoint on life. The 19th amendment had been passed and women were officially allowed to vote. Since then, women have been gaining more and more freedom. No longer were they looked at as objects, they were finally looked at as amazing human beings that they are. Today, women are scientists, doctors, mothers, soldiers, anything you can imagine. The idea of equality has expanded and has become more accepted by everyone in America.
America has shaped itself into a country of freedom, liberty, and world-wide culture. And it has gone through many changes to achieve such status. The civil rights movement was a very important change America has gone through. The 13th amendment abolished slavery in 1865. Without this amendment, equality wouldn’t be part of this country. Although racism still exists, it was much worse before the 21st century. This was definitely a change that made this country a much better place.
Over time, there has been an increased amount of information known to man. In fact, until recently scientists thought that Pluto was a planet. It’s discoveries like this that expand...
