The Person Who Influenced Me The Most
As I jumped out the window with the lab-top in my hands, I could hear sirens coming after me. This was a snapshot of the daily gang activities I was involved in came before Sandra came into my life. Instead of trying to improve myself, I committed to activities that destroyed me and disunited my family. This person was a great influence in changing the direction of my life. My sister Sandra Hernandez, born in Mexico, immigrated to the United States nine years ago. Though she experienced many challenges adapting to a new culture and lifestyle, she was quick to claim the responsibilities that my parents could not fulfill. Other than helping me resolve most of my vices, my sister took the role as mentor, and a mother figure. These acts of kindness and love molded me into the person who I am today.
Sandra helped me change my priorities and habits by forcing me to understand my mistakes. I am from Rialto, a town infamous for gang violence and drugs. I regret to say that I wasted several years of my life by being deeply involved in that environment. Throughout my first three years of high I decided to join a small gang. During this time my only asperation was to satisfy the gang’s desires, so I committed myself to many violent and illegal activities. The problem was that I did not see this gang commitment as a waste of time. I actually put these activities above anything, they were my priority. In the past I would much rather break the law with my “friends” than to have dinner with my family. After I was almost killed in a gang associated activities, my sister’s years of constant reproaching and scolding finally had an effect on me. I finally realized that all of these activities that I was involved in were completely foolish. As for my “friends” I quickly...
