How vision and Volunteerism text helped me
Understand the valve of Community
Service Programme in Jamaica
and the role I have played
What is meant by the term Volunteerism?
According to “ Vision and Volunteerism” by Don Robotham he saw it has as any action or course of actions, usually of social, civil nature, prompted primarily by altruistic motives, form which the beneficiaries are people who are not normally the volunteer’s direct responsibility.
The ‘Vision and Volunteerism’ have helped me to understand the value of Community Service in that it has pointed out to me to be an effective volunteer, one that is free from a spirit of selfishness and indiscipline, this must be the emphasis for us to have a economic and social development of Jamaica. The text ‘Vision and Volunteerism’ has pointed out to me that we are all participating in a society while its fabric steadily unveiling everyday before our eyes.
In a society such as this, one need to retain a sense of balance in such an unstable situation; one needs to place great emphasis on the value of community service and it’s valuable to Jamaica. In addition, it would be very contradicting if persons engage themselves in community service with the motive of just completing the hours stated. I must emphasize that the act itself has its own reward.
Let me add that I am strongly in favor of establishing major national awards to encourage volunteerism if it is the only means of getting persons. In conclusion the text has helped me to understand that the value of community service to Jamaica is beneficial to all concerned. The role I played was simply that of a volunteer in my community service program that I did willing with pride. I became a role model by understanding the role of being an environmentalist and with that I will be able to be able to preserve nature better.
