If two people love each other, shouldn’t they be allowed the same rights, privileges, and responsibilities, no matter their gender? People believe that gay marriage is wrong and shouldn’t be legal. Some people just do not get the fact that love is love no matter your gender. Gay marriage should be legal because they have the same rights, same sex couples can really constitute a good family, and because love is love.
As woman and men, all individuals have the same rights. If you tell a gay couple that they cannot get married then you are taking away their right to live a happy life with the one they love. Having equal rights means all the rights are the same for everyone. You can not just change the rights for gay people just because you do not want them to get married. Then everyone would not have equal rights.
Same sex couples can really constitute a good based family. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, they have recognized that gay households can be just as loving and supportive just as well as a straight household. People think that a gay household will only raise a gay child. They also think a gay couple family is not a good alternative for children. My friend Martha who is 21 years old had a 6 year old daughter named Jessica, and Martha’s girlfriend lives with them. The kids use to make fun of Jessica all the time because she had two moms, but Jessica would always say “Having two moms is better than having one mom and one dad.” Jessica loves having two moms and they both make such great moms and just because she has two moms does not mean that Jessica is going to turn out gay as well.
Love is love and it is what it is. Individuals have the right of choices and nobody has the right to judge other one’s choices. Some conservatives are compelled to demean love between people of the same sex, reducing it to lust or treating it as “narcissistic.” They are wrong.
