What is a Leader?
A major role in the continuation of modern society is our leaders and the roles they play. Incredibly high expectations are set for leaders today. Leaders are expected to take charge, set and sometimes fulfill nearly impossible goals, be innovative, perform magic with budges, maintain harmony with all constituencies, and keep everyone satisfied with their jobs. Although leader is difficult to define precisely, leaders do share some basic characteristics.
First, the leader must be honest, trustworthy, and respectful. Who wants a leader that is going to abuse his position by doing things for his own self-interest? A leader should be someone you respect and can trust to do the right thing to the best of their ability. After all, he or she is the main representative of the group, and the ways he acts directly reflects on the group.
Second, the leader is a good decision-maker. A good decision-maker is one who will make decisions for the benefit of the group. An individual is elected or chosen because it is believed he or she can help the group. In order to help the group, the individual has to be a good decision-maker and always forward-looking.
Another attribute that all leaders should support is knowledge. Knowledge is a condition of knowing something with familiarity gained through experience. The leader should have the knowledge where she or he could lead us to an industrial, spiritual, and intellectual revolution. A leader should know the demands and wants of the follower or governed. Knowledge ascertained by the leader in his leadership can be helpful to him as a person and also as a leader. Many will trust in his decisions so he must have a great range of wisdom so that he can deal with problems to better the people. Knowledge is definitely a virtue that a leader should have to strengthen.
Devotion is also a leadership quality. The devotion of a leader will bring about a great closeness with the people...
