As the United States grows and diversifies there is a constant struggle between different cultures and different ethnicities. Change is the only thing that is constant in this modern and advancing society and this constant change is the ignition of various debates. Society looks at these changes and approves of some and disapproves of others. Disputes over matters as small as the height of our fence and as large as the value of a young soldiers life fill the papers and thoughts of people everyday. The United States has afforded itself with freedom and civil liberties that most, if not all, appreciate and take full advantage of, but these liberties carry a double edged blade. Freedom of speech gives citizens the right to speak up against injustices but it also allows some to fall victim to other peoples opinions that may not reflect our own. The struggle between people and ideas is one that must go on in order for the country to remain a democracy and for the desires of the majority to be made obvious.
Today our children are faced with attending schools that have all walks of life as students and as teachers. The workforce is becoming more and more diverse everyday. Although there are different opinions and different goals teamwork is necessary for common goals to be met. Throughout the past one hundred years there have been many struggles to overcome racism, sexism, agism and a host of other discriminations. These battles have always been to allow everyone the same freedoms and opportunities that are available and great strides have been made toward equality and equal opportunity. All of the progression that has been made is a direct result of free speech and the ability to offer various opinions for debate.
The revolution, with respect to civil liberties, has possibly contributed to a loss in civil liberties. Various special interest groups argue their opinions and propose that their opponents should be restricted from voicing opinions....
