June 09, 2008 The Devastations of the Iraq War

The current war in Iraq has caused many changes in the world. Since its declaration, many of the United States’ bonds with other countries have been broken. Though Americans first supported its cause, the majority of the U.S. now has distaste for the war in Iraq for several reasons including the nation’s debt and continual rises in the deaths of American soldiers. Also, ancient Iraq land is in ruins and innocent Iraqi people are dying everyday. The war in Iraq needs to come to an end as it is destroying not only Iraq, but the United States as well.
One very serious outcome of the war in Iraq that affects the U.S. in a negative way is the fact that the support it once had from most of the rest of the world is crumbling. “The collateral damage inflicted by the war on America's relationships with the rest of the world is a lot deeper and broader than most Americans have yet realized. It isn't just that the Iraq war invigorated the anti-Americanism that has always been latent pretty much everywhere. Far worse is the fact that—however it all comes out in the end, however successful Iraqi democracy becomes a decade from now—our conduct of the war in Iraq has disillusioned our natural friends and supporters and thrown a lasting shadow over our military and political competence.” (Applebaum, 2007, p. 14). Skepticism is that because the United States is distracted with Iraq that Iran’s nuclear program and enrichment of Uranium is still in progress. Because of what many believe was a false accusation of “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq, the United Nations is hesitant to acknowledge what is going on in Iran.
