Capital Punishment
Three quarters of the United States currently support capital punishment, and the pro-death penalty forces seem to be gaining momentum. Support for the death penalty has not always been so high. In 1966, for example, only forty-two percent of the population supported capital punishment. (C, Meade, para 1). Although it is cruel and inhuman and there is the possibility of executing an innocent person I feel as though an eye for an eye and that is the chance to take for the actually guilty convicts get what they deserve.
According to polling experts, this large shift in public opinion over a relatively short period of time is “puzzling” and suggests there are factors “more emotional then rational” driven increased support for the death penalty.” (C. Meade para2)
According to Christopher Meades article, the reason so many people are in favor of the death penalty is due to focusing on films based on true-life stories. The examples in the films are narrated on actual occurrences. That the narratives to the films are pro-death penalty and they are trying to show that an attempt to create a feeling of social order in an increasingly violet world. With the convicted has been executed the justice has been fulfilled and that acts as a way of return into order.
In response the anti death penalty narratives state that true stories undermine the lawyers critical tactics. Saying that the lawyers has poor legal services. Starting a show with the crime caused and ending the story with the defendant being executed shows that

the defendant was guilty the whole time and makes the audience agree with the capital
punishment.
