Youth Sports Have Become Too Intense Over the past decade, youth sports have increasingly become more intense. It is a very controversial topic in our community today. Scholars are starting to take this topic very seriously. It is not just adults who think that youth sports have become too intense, a lot of kids think so too. Contributing to this pressure and intensity has been the ability to play the same sport year round with the introduction of more travel and AAU programs, the increase in exposure and rewards from success in sports, and the time commitment required at the highest level.

The countless number of avoidable accidents and deaths that result from these pursuits are very high, with it occurring numerous times, every day, all over the world. High-speed pursuits are used as an adrenaline rush for individuals who fit in with the edgework theory. There’s something about a steep slope that gets my adrenaline pumping. I have skied a lot and I feel like I am very good. However, I was pretty awful when I started. There is a lot more to skiing then flying down the mountain because eventually stopping and turning becomes an issue. The first thing a prospective skier must do is practice gliding and staying in an athletic stance.
Stress is a natural part of life. Good stress is the rush of adrenaline that allows a person to win a race, get projects finished and turned in on time, or meet and accomplish other challenges that someone may encounter on a daily basis. However, stressing can turn bad when you are unable to overcome it. Every day there are responsibilities, obligations and pressures that change and challenge people. The three main environmental conditions that affect athletes in a big way are altitude, time change, and temperature. Each condition will affect all athletes in different ways and can cause minor and major issues. Altitude is the reduced air resistance and the force of gravity is reduced. Some of the immediate effects include nausea, headache, shortness of breath, and many other symptoms. Speaking from experience, I used to run cross country in high school, and I would always have a difficult adjusting to the altitude in western South Dakota as opposed to eastern South Dakota.
Jones 1 High school vs. College Going from high school to college, while it’s very exciting and fun, can also be very challenging. It is a great milestone in a person’s life. A huge step that a student will either adjust to or struggle with. With many differences there are certain similarities as well. The more prepared a person is to face the similarities and differences, the more successful they will be in the long run, because College and high school is totally different.
