A Conversation with My Father
A Conversation with My Father is a conversation between the author and her father. The story also includes another story about a woman who was left alone by her son, even though she loves him so much, and she became a “ junkie” in order to maintain their close relationship. A conversation between the writer and her father about is the way of view. Their points of view about the society is totally different. Grace Paley’s father asks her to write a short simple story by the way she used to write. She has written about the woman’s story twice. Her father doesn’t like the first one because the story is too plain. After some arguments and explanations between them, the second one came out very smoothly and differently compared to the first one. Both stories talked about the same subject, time, and ending but the meaning of both small stories is opposite. There are many interesting things to me in A Conversation with My Father. First of all, I feel sorry for the lady, but after that I understand there is a reason why her son left her alone, she is in drug. The different thinking between the author and her father is about life and people. The second thing that makes me interesting is the first story. I ask myself : “ what was happened to the lady ?” , and “ what will happen to her?”, “ where was her husband?”, and “ what was her thinking?” . Then, I keep reading the story and find out answers at almost the end of the story. The story delivered message to the audiences that even thought people have corrected their problem, they might not get back what they used to have before after all.
