The definitions and descriptions capture the diverse aspects of the many different teenagers in the world. The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides is a novel that reflects different stereotypical descriptions of teenagers. The curious love struck teenage boys show the typical hormonal growing teenagers. The escape from reality, hating school life, over controlling parents and boy interested girls is another representation from the novel. It is clearly seen and put straight forward whilst reading text the representations of teenagers also images have an effective impact also. In one photo such as this image, can convey a whole representation on being a teenager with all the emotions and baggage it brings.
These types of teenagers can link with an image showing similar depictions of the stereotypical teenager with the label of ‘emotional instability’. This image represented clearly shows the unhappiness and issues she would be dealing with as a teenager has had impacts on her life.
The Virgin Suicides representations are seen through the eyes of the boys next door. They are spell bounded by the mystery and by the beauty of the five Libson Daughters who are troubled and typically trapped in their house by their parents. The novel begins with the suicide of the youngest daughter making them talk of the town and beginning of the mystery for the teenage boys next door as they look down from a tree house. The mystery they say has never been sold. The book is a collaboration of the evidence they have pieced together and searched for they have tracked down people, gathered photos, read and reread diaries but the mystery remains unsolved.
