Human Behavior Theory And African Americans Essay

Throughout time there has been numerous studies conducted to attempt to understand the African American community.   A great deal of research has been taken out of context, which has caused the data to not thoroughly reflect the behaviors taking place within the community.   The theorists who have developed particular theories, such as social learning theories and the psychoanalytic theory, to name a few, have not presented a fair representation of the African culture.   They have omitted important behavioral data, which lacks the social environment of African Americans by not included them as subjects within the study, however comparing them to the theories related to Eurocentric views.   By adopting these viewpoints and allowing it to represent all cultures, the research can be considered invalid because it does not represent cross-culturalism.
According to See (2007) the black experience and African American ties to Africa should be included when building theories used to explore the black experience.   The article goes into detail to express the fact that theories developed were based upon Eurocentric concept used to analyze all people.   With knowing Eurocentric concepts became the norm for all people, African American scholars have been developing their own theories to analyze black behavior (See, 2007).
When data by White theorist were done, black theoreticians realized the data collected was tainted. “The contamination was largely due to the incursion into these communities by some majority social scientists, accompanied by black ultraconservative professionals who help pave the way for African-American exploitation” (See, 2007, p. 7).   The black experience is an experience difficult to collect data on with the connection to Africa, however See (2007) suggest until social scientist are able to develop accurate information regarding the black experience, researchers should continue using the theoretical strips as a model for examining the behavior of African...
