In Daniel Weintraub’s “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home,” he argues that parents are held responsible for the increasing numbers of child obesity here in the United Stats of America. Parents need to be positive role models for their children and start instructing them to develop healthy habits at an early age, starting with choosing what they eat. Film director Morgan Spurlock of Supersize Me states that one in every three children born in the year 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime. An ideal solution to this problem would be for parents to educate their children more about eating healthier foods and to get involved in some sort of outdoor activity or exercise action more often. I agree with Weintraub that parents are at fault for the growing rate of child obesity, but at the same time, fast food companies are also liable to a certain extent as well.
Children are influenced by their parents on a daily basis from when they are first born to where they stand now. What we know now is from what we’ve learned from our parents… integrity, honesty, respect. The morals they teach us are just as important as the eating habits they teach us. What we are now today is because of the choices our parents made for us when we were young. We learn and feed off from their decisions, making us who we are today. Parents should demonstrate the rights and wrongs of eating food to their children like abolishing all junk food items and replacing them with healthy and more nutritional items with the idea that it is okay eat healthy. Indicating to children that making healthy choices now will benefit them later on when they have to decide what to eat when they are on their own.
Habitual exercise activity wouldn’t kill anyone either. If anything, researches show that exercising actually lowers heart rate and blood pressure at any level, meaning you’d actually have a better chance of living longer and healthier playing outside, than...
