Evaluation of Dating Advertisements
Since the mid 2000s, finding love has seen changes due to online dating services. Technologies has developed rapidly allowing daters the use of personal computers and cell phones to find prospective partners. Upon searching for dating advertisements, I came upon mostly online and television dating ads rather than print ads. So I decided to evaluate the online dating services offered in the eHarmony’s 2011 dating commercial which I was able to locate on youtube.com and can be seen in most local TV channels.
All the eHarmony.com TV commercials follow the same pattern. It is usually the successful couple being interviewed or casually sharing about how they met on eHarmony and how perfect things have turned out between them. They make it funny, charismatic, they choose perfect looking couples and sell you this ideal picture that really works if you are seeking to find a soul mate. And of course they use the big “marriage” word. With exception of the younger generation, if eHarmony is aiming to get the attention of your typical 30+ year olds, who are single and looking, well chances are that they got it. With the economy the way it is, experts say more and more people are seeking to get married for financial relief additionally to love and companion. What an easier and faster and convenient way to meet a potential mate than online dating?
Out of many commercial ads by eHarmony.com, this one stroked a cord with me because of its “down to earth” nature and story used for this ad. In this commercial a man named Jeff and his girlfriend Kelly are being interviewed about their first date. This couple looks to be in their early 30s, Caucasian and very good looking.
