Is Capital Punishment necessary today?

Everywhere in society, there are people, who disobey the law, committing crimes like stealing, rape and murder. There are beheadings in Saudi Arabia, The electric chair and the lethal injection in America. Everywhere else in the world there are still hangings, the firing range and the gas chamber. Is Capital Punishment or “Death Sentence” necessary in the society that we live on today? Some people might agree with the death penalty. Families get devastated when someone they love and care about has died. It is different when that person they care so much about has been murdered or killed. People tend to hate that person and have the urge to do anything to them, in order for them to suffer, which cause us to take, revenge on them. This matter has lead to the death penalty. This is a punishment that slowly kills the man or woman that has committed the crime. Why should people have pity on those who choose to kill? If they felt powerful enough to kill, then everybody else should be able to do the same to them. Whatever their reason is why they choose to kill, they should be punished some other way, somehow.

However, a strong case can be made against the death penalty. We have no right to take someone’s life away from them even though they have committed a tragic crime. The government and the families should realize they are not preventing anything by doing this.

Study shows that over 80% of those serving life sentences will never commit another crime, and well over 80% will never again commit a capital offence. These statistics clearly show that other forms of punishment are successful so the prevention of crime by using capital punishment is not needed. Some defend capital punishment with anger over wrongdoing. This human anger is often the cause of murder itself. If anger were not carried out into actions, there would be no need for punishment in the first place. Society must look...
