Organizational Ethics Issue Resolution
Organizations have a responsibility to make ethical decisions when facing problems or choices in the marketplace. This responsibility extends to practically every decision made in determining the course, actions, and programs of the organization. There are steps to follow in the process of ethical decision-making. These steps work to remove personal bias from decisions.
The steps in ethical decision-making are issue clarification, stakeholder analysis, values identification, issue resolution, addressing objections, and resolution implementation (University of Phoenix, 2003). Ethical decisions require organizations, and the individuals within them, to follow these steps in order to determine which course of action or decision is the ethical one. The success or failure of an organization depends heavily on the organization’s commitment to ethical decision-making at all levels.
Security of Client Information
The security of client information is an ethical issue faced by any organization with clients. Some organizations sell client information, others maintain open files, and still others avidly protect client information—even to the point of restricting employee access on a necessity basis. There are as many different approaches to this issue as there are organizations in operation. The approach an organization chooses is entirely dependent on that organization’s views of ethical decision-making and the processes involved.
Organizations, within the United States of America, have legal obligations to inform clients of the ways in which, and purposes for which, their information will be used. There are any number of opt-out, opt-in, confidentiality, privacy, and security documents used in business today.
