T.P.
My pulse raced. My mind traveled in a thousand
directions at once. Quickly and senselessly I followed
closely behind my friends, Joey and Reid. My hands became
drenched in a cold sweat from loosely grasping a plastic
bag full of Charmin Ultra toilet paper. The hundreds of
consequences from getting caught circled around in my head
from the moment we left Reid’s house. The darkness covered
the streets eerier than usual. It differed from the normal,
“I need a flashlight darkness.” It served the purpose of a
“camouflaging darkness.” It defended against watchful eyes.
The night’s air could chill the warmest souls. But the
heavy, black clothing and my incessant nervousness kept me
perspiring every second. What have I gotten myself into? I
had never done anything this bad before. I had no desire to
commit vandalism. My friends had told me that it would do
me some good though.
“You need to know when to let go,” Reid told me over and
over again. The fear of “letting go” of my morals did not
cause any in fear in me. I did, however, shuddered at the
fact that I might never get to have my purity again.
The plastic bag fell from my slippery hands, and I stopped
to pick it up. As I tried to bend down, I realized the
stiffness of my muscles from having such tense nerves. I
feebly tried to lift the bag and almost became nauseated
when I realized the unbelievably long distance between my
friends and I. Those few seconds it took me to sprint up to
Joey and Reid’s position lasted for hours in my mind. In
that lonely darkness, I ran naked to a hundred judgmental
eyes that stared at me and watched my every move: “What are
you doing outside so late Adam?” “Is that toilet paper in
that bag?” “Someone call the...
