In the modern society, the occurrences of crime are inherently everywhere.   Crimes are generally categorized into crimes against person and property crimes.   Crimes against person are usually violent in nature that range from murder to simple assaults.   Property crimes are crimes committed against individuals that results in the loss of monetary values.   These crimes range from simple thefts to arson.   One of the most serious types of property crimes is burglary.   According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a burglary occurred once every 14.6 seconds in 2010 (The Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2011).
Situation
In the situation presented the door was found ajar upon arrival which indicated that an unauthorized entry was made into the residence.   Upon entry into the residence, a boy was observed rummaging through the drawers indicating that he was looking for something.   When confronted, the boy stated that he was trying to leave a note for his friend.   Further investigation revealed that the boy possessed a lock pick kit and jewelry that did not belong to him.   In addition, the boy also emanated the smell of marijuana indicating that he may be under the influence.   The boy was immediately told to leave the location and he complied with no further incident.
In this situation a crime had been committed.   This crime can be categorized as a property crime.   The main crime that was committed was the crime of burglary.   Burglary can be described as an unauthorized entry into a business or dwelling with the intent to commit a theft or felony.   In this situation, the boy entered the residence with the intent of committing a crime.   This intent can be proven by the fact that he had a lock pick kit in his possession.   The boy was also observed rummaging through the kitchen drawers and had jewelry on his person that did not belong to him.   The boy had no indication that he was trying to leave a note and had no reason to enter the...
