Returning To School
I was so afraid when my boss came to me and told me I had to go back
to school to get my degree in Early Childhood Education. I have always had a
problem with remembering what is said to me and comprehending what I read.
I though to my self "O My Gosh! I can't go to college!" I can honestly say
I'm glad I didn't say no.
I started going back to school in when I got hired by the Baker
Headstart/PreK Progam in September 2001. I was so scared. I really didn't know
what to expect. I just knew in my brain that this was going to be a tough road.
A lot happen in my first year. I lost my dad, sister (pregnant), sister husband, and
almost my mom in an car accident. Then after that I got transferred to another
school. Then Hurricane Charley came through our town. Having to go to school
and juggle all that on top of the condition that I have going to school was like a
joke to me. When I had my son in April 2003 I started taking my job more
seriously. I have a child to raise and want to be able to know how to help him be
the best he can be in school. Two years after I had my son I had my daughter in
May 2008. My daughter was so different from my son. She has medical
difficulty’s and one of the classes that I took for my CDA talked about dealing
with children that have medical and mental disabilities. So having her really
helped me through that class. I would hear people say all the time that girls grow
faster than boys and I really believe that.
