“It is impossible to escape the impression that people commonly use false standards of measurement – that they seek power, success, and wealth for themselves and admire them in others, and that they underestimate what true values in life are.”(Freud 1) A man such as he can only be named as brilliant. Driven to books and a curiosity to know everything took him to great feats. Now the name Sigmund Freud is notorious to the name “Father of Psychoanalysis.” Freud has opened the doors to psychology and found many rooms behind that door.
Prior Sigmund’s birth, Jacob Freud was a man of dangerous reputation in the village of Freiberg, Moravia. Jacob Freud took to a bad reputation because he was a “Free Thinker” (Baker 3). He believed in equality for all mankind, which did not sit well with those with strong religious beliefs. J. Freud married once, but his spouse died. Shortly after with a son Emmanuel Freud he married again this time to a 16 year-old girl named Amalia Nathansohn. Jacob and Amalia went on to have a child of their own. At the same time Emmanuel had found a wife and had two babies by the names of John Freud and Pauline Freud. On May 6, 1856 a genius was born by the name of Sigmund Freud.
At a young age Freud was smothered with love and care by his mother Amalia, but was more neglected by his father. Freud took to his mother like a sloth on a tree. Amalia spoiled Freud so he was accustomed to getting what ever he wanted. Although his father neglected him he longed for his compassion. As he grew older and began to play with Emmanuel’s children of his age. John always picked on Freud, but Freud always fought back till the two had to be separated. When Freud’s fathers business failed the families parted. Emmanuel and his family moved to England and Freud’s family moved to Vienna when he was four. This time was too miserable for Freud ever to recall.
