Flexibility
The ability to adjust one’s emotions, thoughts,
and behaviors to changing situations and conditions.
In this week’s journal I will be talking about the skill Flexibility. Flexibility is the ability to be able to adjust one’s emotions, the way they think, and how they act to different situations and conditions. I think that it’s important for people to be generally flexible because if you are not flexible at all you are going to be a hard person to work with and if you are to flexible you are going to be a pushover so it’s important that you can balance it out. I relate to this skill because I always try to be flexible for people when it’s needed and try to meet people in the middle if we disagree on how something should be done. In general flexibility is about being able to adjust your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in changing situations. For example the other day my roommates and I were making a dinner with potatoes. My roommates enjoy mashed potatoes but one of our other roommates likes his potatoes baked. Since we usually have mashed I suggested that we be flexible and have baked because living on our own is a new situation and we aren’t all used to what other people like. This was a situation that required some flexibility because you got to keep everyone happy and make sure that everyone is getting along in the house because if not people are going to become uncomfortable and that isn’t right, especially when it has to be their home for the year of schooling.
