Headquartered in Delray Beach, Florida, their products offer security for people, animals, the food supply, government/military arena, and commercial assets. Included in this product line are RFID applications, back-to-back food safety systems, GPS/Satellite communications, and most controversially the human-implanted VeriChip.
VeriChip offers the widest range of RFID tag technologies within its solutions - beyond just passive and active tags - including implantable, wearable, and attachable form factors. VeriChip is the first Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved human-implantable RFID microchip. “Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders.” (Wikipedia.com) VeriChip received United States FDA approval in 2004. “About the size of a grain of rice, the microchip inserts just under the skin and contains only a unique, 16-digit identifier. The chip itself does not contain any other data other than this unique electronic ID, nor does it contain any Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking capabilities.
