Is creativity the ability to make marvelous art work or is it the ability to solve complex math problems? Creativity can be tied into both of these abilities. Creativity has brought us from era to era in many fields from art, to technology, to medicine. There is a very strong correlation between creativity and intelligence. The concept of the word creative or creativity as changed throughout history, there are ways you can measure creativity, many different perspectives of creativity, the stages of creative thought, and the characteristics of a creative person is on the agenda. First, the way that people have viewed creativity has changed dramatically over time. In ancient Greece didn’t have a word that meant “creative” the used an expression that meant “to make.” They believed that inspiration came from the gods and it was overseen by a muse. In Rome the twisted these beliefs a bit and didn’t just see poets as making new things, they saw artist and sculptors as gifted with inspiration. But still didn’t have a word or expression that meant creative. It wasn’t until the Renaissance period that people saw them self as creative. In the west creation, was viewed a discovering or an act of mimicking. Second, there are a few ways to measure creativity. There have been a few attempts to make “creativity quotient” much like an IQ test, but all attempts have failed. It is too difficult for one to make a standardized test for creativity because the creativity depends on the tester’s personal judgment. The Unusual Use Test is where one is asked how many uses they think is possible for an object or idea. The Consequences test, on would list the results that would follow a change in the world, like the plate under California moving and breaking it off from the continents.
