Ashley's best friend Natalie cons her into helping save the prom, which now has less budget than a middle school mixer. Reluctantly, Ashley joins the prom committee while juggling a part-time job that is about to kill her, physically, a high school drop-out boyfriend, ever-multiplying detentions, and a wacky family life.
When her mom finds out about Ashley's heroic efforts to salvage the major social event of the year, there's no way Ashley can convince her that she doesn't want to go to the prom - if they do manage to pull it off. Her family at home was very stressful. Ashley’s mom was about to have her baby and Ashley was going to be a big sister again and everyone was very stressed out in her family. Her dad was having fun with Ashley’s little brothers and was destroying the kitchen and while he’s fixing the repairs in the kitchen, Ashley’s dad is trying to finish Ashley’s room in the basement. Everyone was stressing out which made her home environment not help with her school and life.
They tried everything to raise enough money to pull off the prom. They asked for donations, they even asked for the workers at the school to work for free the night of their prom. The Prom Committee thought it would be cheaper to have their prom at the school instead of a expensive hotel. The prom did take place, but in the gym instead of a hotel or anywhere better. The gym was the only thing that they could afford. So at the moment in this story, the prom tickets are now on sale and they are selling fast.
